CHASE THE SUNSET - is the 3rd Solo Smooth Jazz CD Bill McGee, in the tradition of "This One's 4U" and "Soul Man", Bill adds five smooth originals to a blend of seven R&B/Soul cover songs that make this a perfect choice for people seeking a new musical experience. CHASE THE SUNSET is a great collection of smooth jazz classics; including Stevie Wonder's - "I Wish" featuring Mike Spratley (vocals) and Brandon Lane on bass, Brandon's a 13 year old prodigy making his recording debut on this track. He also plays on Earth, Wind and Fire's - "Keep Your Head To The Sky". You get to hear the beautiful and talented Chyp Greene (Plunky & Oneness) on a classic Quiet Storm version of "Go Outside In the Rain". "Outside in the rain" alone makes this CD worth the purchase. The title song "Chase The Sunset" is a mood setter, the kind of song that you rewind to keep your laid back groove, with Tom Reaves on Guitar. Bill's "I Like The Way You Move", featuring Neo-DooWop group Bak N Da Day on vocals and James Saxsmo Gates on Sax, is as classic as the original. Bill, is one of the best multi-instrumentalist in the country, Bill performs all of the instruments except guitar on this song and when combined with the smooth blending of Bak N Da day, Saxsmo's intense sax solo, and Tom Reaves' great guitar work, this song becomes one of the best versions ever released. Bill McGee is a master at rearranging songs made popular in the 1970's by The Stylistics. This album features Bill and close friend James Holden (Soprano Sax) on "STOP, LOOK & LISTEN", a great version of the smooth and classic Thom Bell and Linda Creed-Epstein hit, with a smooth Flugelhorn & Soprano Sax duet. Another smooth track is "The Groove" which features Saxsmo and Hannon Juicy Lane as co-writers and performers. The star of this CD is "GOLD BABY", a real funky jazz groove. "Gold Baby" features Bill, Saxsmo, and Tom Reaves, the call and response on this song will have you singing along. This song is dedicated to Bill McGee Sr. of Chicago, who was nick named Gold Baby at birth because his mother paid the hospital with Gold coins. The Gold was given to her by her husband, the famous gospel music pioneer, Bishop F.W. McGee, who was out of town when Bill McGee, Sr. was born. "Sway" is from the movie "Shall We Dance", the song was recorded for Mrs. Bill McGee, who loves to dance. Bill's rendition features Joe Taylor on Flute and Bill performing all of the other instruments. "What's Going On" the Marvin Gaye classic is performed to perfection on this CD by Saxsmo and Joshua Hodari (vocals). The Earth, Wind and Fire classic, "Keep Your Head To The Sky" is real smooth, with vocals by the dynamic Ms. Shawn Chappelle. Inspiration came from the arrangement by Maysa Leake (Incognito). The song "Chill" is true to the title and features popular smooth jazz guitarist and recording artist, Jim Adkins. "Kickin & Screamin" features the dynamic pianist Debo Daney, both of these tracks are just as note worthy as all of the others... the entire album is EXCELLENT MUSIC, professionally record by seasoned musicians. If you like Rick Braun, Chris Botti, Greg Adams, Kirk Whalum, Norman Brown, Bob Baldwin, or Joe Sample, CHASE THE SUNSET will work in your CD player. Buy it.... you won't be sorry!
